Gabigol obtains suspension effect and is free to return to play for Flamengo

This Tuesday morning, Flamengo announced that Gabigol’s defense achieved the suspensive effect and the attacker is free to play. The number 10 was suspended a month ago by the Court of Sports Anti-Doping Justice (TJD-AD), with a total sentence of two years, accused of defrauding an anti-doping test at the end of 2023.

Gabriel Barbosa’s defense filed a request for a suspensive effect with the CAS (Sports Arbitration Court) in early April. This Tuesday, the request was unanimously accepted by the court.

On social media, the center forward celebrated his release with a video in which he passes through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, arrives back at Maracanã and has his traditional celebration in a mosaic made by birds in the sky.

The attacker was reported, at the time, for not agreeing to take a surprise test and for preventing one of the inspectors from monitoring the urine collection. The trial score was 5 to 4 due to Gabigol’s suspension.

Now, the center forward is free to return to play for the Red and Black team while awaiting the judgment of the appeal, which does not yet have a set date.

Gabriel has not been on the field for Flamengo since February 25th and has two goals scored in 2024. The athlete could make his return this Wednesday, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), when the red-black team faces Amazonas FC, at Maracanã, for the first leg of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil.
