With taboo at stake, Bahia and Criciúma face each other for the Copa do Brasil

Tigre has never beaten Esquadrão in Salvador (BA), the stage for this Tuesday’s clash (30), in the 3rd phase of the competition

It’s Brazil Cup day in Salvador (BA). Bahia and Criciúma face each other this Tuesday (30), in the first game of the third phase of the competition, at Arena Fonte Nova. The confrontation between the teams involves a historical taboo.

According to oGol, in 10 official games played against Esquadrão de Aço in the capital of Bahia, Tigre never won. There are five wins and five draws for Tricolor

The last meeting between the clubs in Salvador took place in April 2022, in Series B of that year’s Brazilian Championship. Bahia won 2-1.

In a press conference held this Monday (29), midfielder Jean Lucas highlighted the importance of playing a good game at home. After all, the return will be at Heriberto Hülse, in Criciúma (SC).

“The home factor is very important. [We have to] Get the score right in this first game to make it easier for the second. The Brazilian Cup is very treacherous. We have to kill in the first game”, said the player.

Bahia undefeated at Fonte Nova

Esquadrão de Aço na Fonte’s only defeat in 2024 was in the opening round of the Campeonato Baiano, against Jequié-BA, 1-0. At the time, Tricolor sent an under-20 team to the field, as the main team I was doing pre-season training in Manchester, England.

Since then, there have been 12 wins and one draw, with 33 goals scored and only five conceded. Last Saturday (27), the team coached by Rogério Ceni beat Grêmio 1-0, in the 4th round of Series A of the Brazilian Championship .

Embezzlement and returns

Both Rogério Ceni and Cláudio Tencati must make changes in relation to the teams that played in the last round of Series A of the Brazilian Championship .

On the tricolor side, defender Victor Cuesta trained normally this Monday (29) and should be available again. He recently underwent surgery on his nose and was absent against Grêmio. Left-back Ryan and midfielder Acevedo are still recovering from their respective injuries and are still unable to play.

Last Saturday (27), after the victory over Grêmio, Ceni said he hoped to make “one or two changes” in the starting team, due to the marathon of games.

Tigre, in turn, will not be able to count on midfielder Barreto, who received a red card in the second phase of the Copa do Brasil, against Operário-MT, and is serving a suspension. Striker Arthur Caíke has already played in the competition for Sport and is also out.

There is a doubt regarding goalkeeper Matheus Teixeira. He belongs to Bahia – he is on loan to Criciúma – and, to play against his former club, Tigre needs to pay a fine. The archer is with the rest of the delegation in Salvador (BA), but has been a reserve.
