Santos creates little and draws with Mirassol in Série B

This Tuesday (25), in the 12th round of Series B of the Brazilian Championship, Santos and Mirassol drew 0-0. The match was played at the Estádio Municipal José Maria de Campos Maia, in the interior of São Paulo.

The game was marked by alternating dominance between the two teams. While Mirassol was imposing and dangerous in the first half, Santos reversed the scenario in the second half and also managed to create their own goal opportunities.

The result takes Santos to fifth place in the table, one below the Series A classification zone. Peixe, even so, could be overtaken by Sport and Coritiba depending on the other results of this round. Mirassol, in turn, occupies ninth place.

Santos returns to the field next Monday (1), when they face Chapecoense at Vila Belmiro. The next day, it is Mirassol’s turn to return to the field to face Novorizontino away from home.

Challenge far from the village

“Viladependência” is a real problem faced by Santos in this Series B. Of the five defeats in this competition, all were away from the traditional Santos home, where the team has an antagonistic performance.

Playing at Vila Belmiro, Santos has a 100% record in the championship. Even so, the challenge against Mirassol tested the ability of Fábio Carille’s team to impose their football as a visitor.

Coat of arms stands out

In an unproductive Santos, goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão emerged as the team’s main highlight. In the first half of the match, there were at least two important interventions that prevented goals from the Mirassol team.

In the first of them, in a free kick taken by Negueba, the young Santos goalkeeper saved a shot over the wall, in the corner. In another, Isaque hit firmly, and Gabriel Brazão made a very difficult save, in the corner, to keep the score tied.

Route correction

Amid Santos’ poor performance in the first half, Fábio Carille wasted no time and made three changes right at half-time. In defense, Rodrigo Ferreira came in for JP Chermont, who struggled to keep up with Fernandinho’s attacks.

Further ahead, Carille also moved the board. Otero and Patrick replaced Pedrinho and Guilherme to rebuild the team’s offensive proposal.

Work the beam

Better with Carille’s moves, Santos managed to create opportunities during the second half. The main one came with center forward Julio Furch’s header, which made work on the crossbar defended by Alex Muralha.

In the move, Otero activated Diego Pituca at the edge of the area. The Santos midfielder aimed for a cross in the second stage and found Julio Furch, free, who went up with his head and hit the crossbar.
