Copa América: what Brazil needs to do to come 1st in Group D

After beating Paraguay 4-1, Brazil remained in contention for first place in Group D of the Copa América. With 4 points, the Brazilian team is two points behind Colombia, the current leader of the group and the next opponent of Dorival Jr.’s team.

Therefore, the math is simple. Brazil will only move into first place in Group D if it beats Colombia next Tuesday (2), in a game that will be held at Levi’s Stadium, at 10 pm (Brasília time). If it wins, the team led by Vini Jr. will reach 7 points and leave the Colombian team behind. In case of a draw or defeat, Colombia will take the lead.

On the other hand, the victory gave peace of mind to the team thinking about the general classification. Brazil guarantees classification in the event of a draw and could even lose depending on the unlikely combination of results. To be eliminated, Colombia must win and Costa Rica must beat Paraguay, which is already eliminated, and still have a difference of six goals on balance.

Copa América Group D will be defined next Tuesday (2):

  • Brazil vs Colombia – Levi’s Stadium – 10pm (Brasília time)
  • Costa Rica x Paraguay – Q2 Stadium 22h (Brasília time)
