São Paulo ends Athletico-PR’s unbeaten run at Ligga Arena and sleeps in G4

São Paulo achieved, this Wednesday (3), the difficult mission of beating Athletico-PR at Ligga Arena , in Curitiba, by winning 2-1 away from home in the 14th round of the Brasileirão and, thus, entering the G4.

Furacão, in fact, had not been defeated in its stadium in the Brasileirão for over a year (21 games) , but Tricolor managed to overcome the pressure from the fans , the synthetic grass and the tension between the players to triumph.

Calleri decides for Sao Paulo

It was the visitors who opened the scoring in the 32nd minute of the first half, after a beautiful finish from striker Ferreirinha. But Furacão’s equalizer came soon after, five minutes later, with a low shot from veteran Fernandinho.

In the final stage, São Paulo managed to hold off the home team’s momentum and achieve victory with a goal from Calleri, who took advantage of a mistake by Athletico’s defense and had to finish twice to score.

Red cards for both sides

At the end of the match, a scuffle between the two teams ended up causing goalkeeper Léo Linck to attack Welington and, consequently, a red card for the Athletico player.

Later, São Paulo coach Luis Zubeldía would also be sent off by referee Alex Gomes Stefano.

Table situation and upcoming games

With their third consecutive victory, São Paulo is in the G4 of the Brasileirão, reaching fourth place with 24 points. Bahia, which faces Juventude this Thursday (4) at Arena Fonte Nova, could take the São Paulo team out of the position.

In the 15th round, São Paulo will host Red Bull Bragantino at Morumbis. The game will be on Saturday (6), at 8 pm (Brasília time).

Athletico-PR loses one position in the table, but remains in the G6, in sixth, with 22 points. Furacão visits Atlético-GO next Sunday (7), at 6:30 pm.
