Abel sees Palmeiras as better than São Paulo and regrets missed goals in the classic
Palmeiras created, but failed to break through São Paulo’s defense this Monday (29), in the first Choque-Rei of Brasileirão 2024. The teams were tied 0-0 at Morumbis in the fourth round of the competition.
In Abel Ferreira’s view, two capital moves defined the tie. The goals missed by strikers Lázaro and Endrick, both in clear opportunities and with the goal open, without the presence of goalkeeper Rafael. In both, Tricolor’s outfield players blocked the shot.
“For me, I missed scoring on both penalties, from Lázaro and Endrick. When you face a good team, it’s natural that there won’t be as many opportunities. We had two, one with Lázaro without a goalkeeper, in a moment of pressure, which resulted in the ball being recovered. We know that Lázaro wanted to score the goal, but I already said that there are goals that cannot be missed, this is one of them. Same thing as Endrick, who received it from López and it took a long time. The opponent had a transition with Calleri hitting the post. Balanced game, I already played against São Paulo, in my opinion it was balanced”, opened Abel Ferreira.
“In the last game, Palmeiras scored three goals. Today, he had two blatant opportunities. It has to be effective, in my opinion we create more blatant opportunities than the opponent, in my opinion. I don’t care how we play, but we have to be effective. In recent years I’ve been demanding a lot from players, Palmeiras is one of the best attacks and defenses. We cannot forget, we played with Inter and lost, we drew with Flamengo, we beat Del Valle and we drew at São Paulo. Life goes on, what worries me is that in 72 hours we have to compete and win”, he added.
With the draw, Verdão remains with just one victory in the first four rounds of the Brasileirão, with two draws and one defeat.
