After failure, Zubeldía defines Jandrei’s situation in São Paulo
Goalkeeper Jandrei left MorumBIS last Thursday (27), hearing protests from the fans after missing Criciúma’s goal during São Paulo ‘s 2-1 victory. But, despite the distrust from the stands, coach Luis Zubeldía did It’s a matter of providing support to the athlete and keeping him as a starter on the team.
“Yes (he will continue as a starter). Jandrei is an experienced goalkeeper. Of course, playing for a big team can always lead to some kind of controversy. But I have to admit that Jandrei’s trajectory is important. And today (Thursday) if he had an impact on the goal, I always hope that a goalkeeper with the trajectory and level of professionalism he has can turn this situation around,” said the coach.
“Internally, we try to always support him. Try to lift it, because the championship is very big, very balanced and we need to have everyone well, protected. It’s accepting criticism about the game, but thinking about the next match and what can be done better”, he added.
Among the São Paulo players , the goalkeeper also finds support. As soon as the duel ended, a few minutes after Jandrei hit the wrong goal kick, delivering the ball to the feet of Arthur Caíke, who shot the ball into the goal, the athletes hugged the goalkeeper and then publicly defended him.
“First of all, we are all human beings, right? I think you also have days at work when things don’t go right, right? Just like he made a mistake today, on Sunday it could be Alisson, it could be another player, it could be an athlete from the opposing team too,” said midfielder Alisson.
“We are not perfect, we will not always get it right, but he is a guy that everyone should see, because he is a guy who works hard, a guy who has helped us a lot, he is a guy who has played several games, the year before last, with a broken rib. So, he is a guy who is always there for us,” he added.
Jandrei started for São Paulo in the last five games, replacing Rafael, who is playing for the Brazilian team at the Copa América. In the next match, he continues as a starter against Bahia . The clash takes place at 4pm (Brasília time) this Sunday (30), at MorumBIS, for the 13th round of the Brasileirão.
