Botafogo fans are those who worst evaluate Brazilian refereeing
Botafogo fans are responsible for the worst evaluations of Brazilian refereeing. According to the CNN/Itatiaia/Quaest survey in the “ Major X-Ray of Fans ”, the Rio club had a significant drop in the number of fans who approve of the arbitration, while the negative evaluation of the owners of the whistle increased.
In 2023, 42% of Botafoguenses evaluated Brazilian arbitration as “positive”, compared to 23% with a “negative” evaluation. In 2024, only 10% view the work of referees favorably, while 41% gave a negative assessment .
Botafogo fans were 3rd in the ranking of positive reviews, but are now last in the list of 13 clubs. As for negative evaluations, the club was tied with Palmeiras in 3rd, but is now easily the leader.
On the other hand, the fans with the most positive evaluations of Brazilian refereeing are from Flamengo (35%), Corinthians (34%) and Bahia (34%). In addition to Botafogo, the fans most dissatisfied with the referees are Vasco (38%) and Santos (36%).
Methodology
The survey The Greatest Fan X-Ray heard 6,373 people in total, comprising 5,023 in-depth interviews with fans from 278 cities and 714 young people aged 7 to 15. Collection was carried out between April 27th and May 1st, 2024, through face-to-face interviews with structured questionnaires.
