Canada player suffers racist attacks after duel with Argentina
Defender Moise Bombito suffered racist attacks after Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Canada, last Thursday (20), in the opening of the Copa América 2024.
The Canadian was involved in a play with Lionel Messi in the 37th minute of the second half. Bombito made a harsh tackle on the Argentine star, who spent a few minutes on the ground and returned to the game after medical attention.
The Canadian Football Federation commented on the attacks and announced that it is in contact with the confederations so that measures can be taken.
“Canada Soccer is aware of and deeply disturbed by the racist comments made online and directed at one of our national team players following tonight’s game. We are in communication with Concacaf and Conmebol about this matter”, he posted.
Who is Moise Bombito
The Canadian defender plays for the Colorado Rapids and recently, more precisely in early April, also faced Lionel Messi, in his team’s draw with Inter Miami in the MLS.
After the debut in the Copa América , which is being played in the USA, Bombito made a post on his Instagram praising his team’s match and preferred not to pay so much attention to the attacks suffered.
“My beautiful Canada. There is no room for this nonsense”, posted the player.
