Copa do Brasil: game between Internacional and Juventude is postponed by CBF

On Tuesday night (30), the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed the postponement of the match between Internacional and Juventude, for the first leg of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil.

Rio Grande do Sul is facing heavy rains, which was already affecting Juventude’s movement from the city of Caxias do Sul to Porto Alegre, where the confrontation was scheduled.

Therefore, the CBF responded to a request from the Rio Grande do Sul government and rescheduled the match, initially scheduled for Wednesday (1), in Beira-Rio. The game will now take place on May 10th, Friday, at 9pm (Brasília time).

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite , also took a stance on the issue on his social networks.

“We asked for the postponement of the game between Internacional  and Juventude for the Copa do Brasil because we understand that all our personnel and efforts must be focused on rescuing people and helping those most in need at this critical moment we are going through.”, he explained.

“Due to the adverse weather conditions in Rio Grande do Sul, the CBF transfers the clash between Internacional and Juventude, in Beira-Rio, scheduled for this Wednesday night (1), for the Copa Betano do Brasil , to the 10th. of May.

The intense rains, with a rainfall of 300mm, made the sporting event unfeasible due to force majeure.

The decision taken in line with the Governor’s appeal aims primarily to protect the safety and physical integrity of everyone involved in the sporting spectacle, including players, technical committee, referees, fans and other professionals.

The CBF, in its role as caretaker of national football, reiterates its commitment to the well-being of participants and thanks all fans of the sport for their understanding.”
