The game
The derby started off tight and with both sides looking for a goal. Cadu had a goal disallowed for offside just seven minutes into the game. Cruzeiro also tried, and almost opened the scoring with Barreal, who cleared Saravia from the play and shot across goal. The ball went close to Everson’s goalpost.
The teams continued to exchange chances, but from the middle of the first half the game lost intensity and became truncated, with many fouls.
In the final stretch of the first half, Galo had good chances again with Scarpa and Arana, but both were stopped by Cássio, who made the saves, and the score remained 0-0 until half-time.
The second half started slower than the first, and also with fewer chances. Seabra and Milito made changes before the 20th minute of the second half. The Atlético-MG coach promoted the debut of Deyverson, who replaced Cadu.
The best chance of the second half came from Arthur Gomes, who replaced Lautaro Díaz in Cruzeiro’s attack. In the 42nd minute, the number 11 received the ball from Matheus Pereira at speed, controlled it and unleashed a bomb. Everson saved it and the ball hit the post.
