Finalists Argentina and Colombia dominate the ranking of foreigners in the Brasileirão

This Sunday (14), Argentina and Colombia will play the grand final of the Copa América, in Miami, United States.

The duel will feature athletes who play in the Série A of the Argentina and Colombia Championship, which is the case of Richard Ríos (Colombia/Palmeiras), James Rodríguez (Colombia/São Paulo), John Arias (Colombia/Fluminense), Santiago Arias (Colombia/Bahia), Borré (Colombia/Internacional).

The two countries are high in the ranking of foreign players in the Brasileirão . The “hermanos” lead with 44 athletes, followed by Uruguay with 23 and in third place, Colombia, with 14.

This season, the governing body of the main ational sport authorized each team to have up to nine international players per game. Previously, the maximum number was seven professionals.

As Thiago Freitas, COO of Roc Nation Sports Brazil , a North American entertainment company run by singer Jay-Z, explains, another factor that favors this context is economic.

“Brazil serves as a market that receives players from their countries of origin with the potential to export them to Europe later. Brazilian clubs have greater financial capacity compared to teams from other South American countries and even less popular European ones, which helps to understand this type of signing,” says Thiago.
