Flamengo fans extend banner against Gabigol at Arena da Amazônia;

A protest banner against striker Gabriel Barbosa, known as Gabigol, was extended by Flamengo fans at the Arena da Amazônia, in Manaus, before the game against Amazonas, on Wednesday night (22). The demonstration carried with it the following words: “We are not fans of scoundrels”.

Before the game, some fans even sang “Ô Gabigol, f*ck you, my Flamengo doesn’t need you” and carried another banner with the words “Gabi Judas”.

The banner was extended amid a moment of crisis for the striker with Flamengo. The player had a photo leaked wearing the Corinthians shirt during a free moment last Thursday (6).

Because of what happened, Gabigol was fined and will no longer wear the number 10 – rather 99, in tournaments where the change is possible. On Sunday (19), the attacker apologized for the incident .

Despite this fact, Gabigol was idolized by a large part of Flamengo fans in Manaus.  The match in the capital of Amazonas was valid for the return of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil . The striker was a substitute in this Wednesday’s match.

Gabigol, 27 years old, has been at the club since January 2019 and, with a contract until the end of 2024, is considered an idol by the fans. He has 280 matches as a Flamengo player, with 155 goals, 43 assists and 12 titles won.

The clash

In the first leg, on May 1st, at Maracanã, Flamengo beat Amazonas 1-0 , with a goal from striker Pedro. On the way back, Fla advances in case of a draw or new victory.
