Flamengo is behind, but seeks a draw against Red Bull Bragantino in the Brasileirão
Red Bull Bragantino and Flamengo drew 1-1 this Saturday (4) in the fifth round of the Brazilian Championship. At the Nabi Abi Chedid stadium, in Bragança Paulista, Pedro Henrique opened the scoring for the home team in the first half. In the second stage, Bruno Henrique equalized for Flamengo.
The match ended up being marked by controversy in the stoppage time of the final stage. The Rio team was scolded by Minas Gerais referee Paulo Cezar Zanovelli for not awarding a penalty to Luiz Araújo, who was allegedly brought down in the penalty area. Coach Tite even ended up being punished with a yellow card for complaining.
With the result, Bragantino remains undefeated, but lost the chance to take the lead in the Brasileirão . Now the two teams become the key to the Libertadores and Sudamericana. Flamengo returns to the field on Wednesday (7) to face Palestino away from home in the Libertadores. Red Bull Bragantino hosts Racing on Thursday (8) in the Sudamericana.
The confrontation started at a fast pace, with both teams looking to attack. However, both RB Bragantino and Flamengo made mistakes when making the last pass. When they managed to finish, they didn’t pose any danger to the opponent’s goal.
In the 21st minute, defender Luan Cândido was sent off after fouling De la Cruz, being the last man in defense. But the card was removed due to a foul by the Flamengo player at the beginning of the play.
In a set piece, RB Bragantino opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Pedro Henrique took advantage of a corner kick and headed the ball past Rossi.
