Fluminense and Atlético-MG test each other for their intentions in the Brazilian Series A

When the ball rolls at the Kleber de Andrade Stadium, in Cariacica, at 4pm (Brasília time), this Saturday (4), in Série A of the Brazilian Championship, Fluminense and Atlético will be testing themselves against a direct rival for their aspirations in the competition.

After four rounds, the two are going through different moments, but with the same objective: to seek the Brazilian title. With one of the most expensive squads in the country, Atlético wants to repeat the feat in terms of running points and win the competition as it was in 2021.

Fluminense, current champion of the Copa Libertadores, enters as one of the contenders for the national championship, as they conquered America last year. The last time Tricolor won the cup was in 2012.

Coincidentally, Fluminense’s dispute for that cup was with Atlético itself, which ended up finishing runner-up. The position earned a place in the Libertadores and Galo won the cup in 2013 in the continental competition.

Classic victory

Before this Saturday’s test, the two teams faced regional classics and did well. Galo beat Cruzeiro 3-0, while Fluminense beat Vasco 2-1.

The victory over Cruzmaltino, in fact, was the only one for Tricolor in four games in the Brazilian Championship. Atlético is undefeated in the competition and has eight points against Flu’s four.

Coach Gabriel Milito still doesn’t know what it’s like to be defeated in ten games under Atletico’s command. He has seven victories, including the final of the Campeonato Mineiro, when he was champion over arch-rival Cruzeiro, in the middle of Mineirão.
