Fluminense announces signing of Uruguayan midfielder Facundo Bernal

Fluminense announced, this Saturday (3), the signing of Facundo Bernal. The 20-year-old midfielder was at Defensor, from Uruguay, and signed permanently with Tricolor until July 2028. The player has already appeared at CT Carlos Castilho, in Rio de Janeiro , and underwent the necessary medical exams.

Bernal was captain of Defensor-URU and was a two-time Uruguay Cup champion with the club . The midfielder has also played for the Celeste Olímpica youth team, where he was a regular starter.

In addition, he was called up by Marcelo Bielsa for a friendly against Costa Rica in May this year, with the Uruguayan national team. On that occasion, Facundo was a starter for the team in the 0-0 draw before the Copa América.

“The truth is that I am very happy. I always wanted to take this leap in my career and Fluminense is one of the biggest teams in Brazil and the current champion of America. I am very happy,” said Bernal.

In the 2024 season, Bernal accumulated 27 games for Defensor, starting in 26 of them. In total, the player scored 2 goals and gave 2 assists, including Uruguayan Championship, Copa Libertadores, Uruguayan Cup and Uruguayan Super Cup.

In the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Bernal was already in the Uruguayan club’s professional squad, however, he failed to score goals or provide assists.
