Grêmio draws with Estudiantes and will face Fluminense in the round of 16 of the Libertadores;
Grêmio and Estudiantes drew 1-1 this Saturday (8) in a delayed match of the 5th round of the Libertadores group stage. At Couto Pereira, in Curitiba, the goals came in the second half. Grêmio opened the scoring with Cristaldo and Mauro Méndez equalized for the visitors in the 37th minute.
With the draw, Grêmio reached 10 points, matching The Strongest, leader of the group, but could not overtake the Bolivian team. That’s because, in the tiebreaker, The Strongest has 8 goals scored, against 7 for Grêmio.
As a result, the Immortal finished the group stage in second place in the group and will face Fluminense in the round of 16. The Strongest, on the other hand, will face Peñarol-URU in the next phase.
The Game
Grêmio started better and created good chances with Diego Costa and Dodi, but found it difficult to convert them into goals. Estudiantes, on the other hand, balanced the actions and responded with shots from Pablo Piatti and Javier Correa.
