Inter draws in the last moment against Athletico, but remains close to the Z4 of the Brazilian Championship

With a goal in the last play, Inter sought a draw against  Athletico-PR, 2-2, at Beira-Rio, in Porto Alegre, but reached 12 games without a win in the season. The teams faced each other in a game valid for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship, on the night of this Sunday (11).

Colorado started the first half with an advantage, with a goal from Wesley, but saw Athletico turn the match around with goals from João Cruz and Canobbio, at the beginning of the second half. In injury time, Wanderson made it all even in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

With the negative result at home, Inter left the pitch to a mixture of boos and applause from the fans in the face of yet another setback in the competition.

Brazilian Championship Table

With the draw, the team led by Roger Machado took 15th place, with 22 points, but remains one point away from the relegation zone. Furacão remained in 8th place in the table, with 29 points.

Next Wednesday (14), at 7:30 pm (Brasília time), Inter will play the first delayed game of the Brasileirão, against Juventude, at Beira-Rio, for the 6th round. Interestingly, Juventude will also be Athletico-PR’s next opponent, but on Sunday (18), at 4 pm (Brasília time), at Ligga Arena, in Curitiba.

After a few exchanges of passes, Inter managed to open the scoring in the 11th minute with a goal from Wesley, and a beautiful assist from Gabriel Carvalho. 1-0 Inter.

Athletico arrives

At 15, Furacão tried to respond with Canobbio, but the striker was already offside. The match continued at the same slow pace until 24, when Julimar, from Furacão, shot towards the goal and Rochet saved.

Draw!

Without Inter showing up for the game, at 38, the young debutant João Cruz equalized for Athletico. The 18-year-old athlete scored his first professional goal against Colorado. 1-1.

Second half

The Hurricane continued with the rhythm of the first half and opened the second half turning the game around. In the fourth minute, after a mistake by Bernabéu, Canobbio extended the lead. 2-1 Athletico.

Once again, Gabriel Carvalho and Wesley tried to score for Colorado, but goalkeeper Léo Godoy saved the ball in the 10th minute. Then, Valencia received a cross and sent the ball away. From then on, Athletico put a lot of pressure on Inter, who were unable to create anything on the field.

Amid boos, Valencia, who hasn’t scored for almost a month, was replaced by Alario and left the pitch amid protests from the fans.
