Meet Evertton Araújo, the jewel that saved Flamengo in Curitiba

Flamengo achieved a heroic draw against Athletico-PR , last Sunday (16), at the Ligga Arena, in the Brazilian Championship. The goal, in the 53rd minute of the final stage, came thanks to a header from a young man from the red and black base: Evertton Araújo

This was the 21-year-old’s first goal in just two games in this Brasileirão. Last Thursday (13), he had already entered at the end of the match against Grêmio, at Maracanã.

Evertton Araújo arrived at Flamengo in April 2022, on loan from Volta Redonda, to play for the under-20 team. At the end of 2023, the Gávea club paid R$800,000 to keep the player permanently. The contract between the parties runs until December 2026.

The athlete started his career at Voltaço. Between 2018 and 2019 he worked at the Cruzeiro and Botafogo bases, but was unable to establish himself. He returned to the Cidade do Aço team before being loaned to Rubro-Negro.

Evertton went through a drama in 2023, when he fractured his fibula in a Carioca under-20 duel. The image of the injury caught attention, but the recovery was successful and the young man was able to return after two months.

Evertton Araújo’s debut in Flamengo ‘s top team took place in the duel against Audax, in January 2023. In Carioca in the same year, the midfielder also played in the games against Bangu and Botafogo. In 2024, in addition to the two games for the Brazilian Nationals, the number 52 entered the field against Nova Iguaçu (in two games), Portuguesa-RJ and Millonarios.

“He is a young man who gives us pleasure working with him. Every day he only opens his mouth to share positive things. Every adjustment he tries to understand, looks for videos. It’s cool that the entire group recognizes this. When he entered the locker room, everyone applauded”, commented César Sampaio, Tite’s assistant, after the duel in Curitiba.
