Palmeiras beat Atlético-GO, but lose the lead in the Brasileirão due to goals scored
On Thursday night (11), Palmeiras beat Atlético-GO 3-1, in a game valid for the 16th round of the Brazilian Championship. At Allianz Parque, Verdão’s goals were scored by Flaco López, Raphael Veiga and Alix Vinicius (own goal), while Shaylon scored for Dragão.
In a very tight first half with good chances for both teams, Verdão soon took the lead in the 5th minute. Gustavo Gómez made a beautiful pass and Flaco López, with class, opened the scoring. Dragão’s equalizer came three minutes later, with a great goal by Shaylon, who took a chance from a long way out and saw the ball go into the corner of Weverton’s goal.
Following the rhythm of the first half, the second half began with a lively pace, but with Palmeiras far ahead of their opponents. Six minutes in, Estêvão made a good play and served Raphael Veiga, who shot low to score the second. Two minutes later, the 17-year-old gem appeared in the area again and shot, but Ronaldo was stopped by Alix Vinicius, who was unable to deflect the rebound and score an own goal.
Table status
With the victory, Palmeiras reached 33 points and is in second place. They were leaders, with Flamengo stumbling, who lost to Fortaleza at Maracanã, but Botafogo beat Vitória and has the advantage in goals for.
On the other side of the table, Atlético-GO lost a position due to goal difference. Now, Dragão occupies 19th place, with the same number of points as Grêmio, which has the advantage.
Upcoming games
Palmeiras will return to the field next Wednesday (16). At 9:30 pm (Brasília time), Verdão will go to Nilton Santos to face Botafogo, in a direct game for the top positions in the Brasileirão.
On the other side of the table, Atlético-GO also plays on Wednesday. Earlier, at 7pm, Dragão hosts Vasco at the Antônio Accioly Stadium.
