Rain of goals, no title: Mbappe bids farewell to PSG in the Champions League;
On Tuesday, the French club fell by the wayside once again, as they were eliminated by Borussia Dortmund without scoring a single goal in the two legs of the semifinal — 2-0 to the Germans on aggregate.
The player has already publicly stated that this will be his last season in Paris, and the expectation is that he will be announced by Real Madrid, the greatest champion in the history of the European tournament.
At 25 years old and a World Cup winner with France, Mbappe is a phenomenon in the Champions League, but when PSG needed it most, the striker was unable to reverse his effectiveness in the cup.
In all, he played 64 matches for the club in the Champions League, scoring 42 goals and providing 22 assists. That is, one goal participation per game. According to SofaScore, it took Mbappe just 83 minutes to get involved.
Even at a young age, he has already entered the top 10 scorers in Champions League history, tying with Ibrahimovic and Shevchenko, and just two goals behind Thierry Henry, his compatriot.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are still alive in the fight for another title in Europe’s biggest club tournament, which they have won 14 times. This Wednesday (8), the Spaniards host Bayern Munich and need a simple victory to advance.
