Rains in Rio Grande do Sul: Bahia and Vitória take a stand on football stoppage;
Bahia and Vitória released, on Tuesday (14), a joint statement in favor of the stoppage of Brazilian football. The topic is on the agenda due to the heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul and their respective impacts since the end of April.
“In solidarity with Rio Grande do Sul, Esporte Clube Bahia SAF and Esporte Clube Vitória defend the temporary stoppage of the Brazilian Championship. During this period, we will continue to seek solutions and actions to help the population and the affected Clubs”, disclosed the BaVi duo.
Bahia is in second place in the Brazilian Championship, while Vitória occupies the 18th position. The Bahian duo also continues in the Copa do Brasil, which is in the third phase.
Data on Tuesday from the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul confirmed that 148 people died as a result of the impacts of the rains, which left several cities flooded and without water or electricity. There are also 538,545 displaced people and 76,884 people in shelters.
