Santos beats Paysandu away from home and maintains isolated leadership of Série B

Santos remains the sole leader of the Brazilian Championship Series B. On Friday night (9), at Mangueirão, in Belém, Peixe beat Paysandu, 3-0, and added three more points in the classification.

The São Paulo team opened the scoring in the first half with Guilherme, who scored for the sixth time in the tournament. In the final half’s injury time, with one more player, Santos scored twice more: Weslley Patati and Guilherme, with a beautiful free kick.

With the rout, Santos reached 37 points and remains the sole leader of the competition. Paysandu, in turn, is 14th, with 24 points, five more than the first team in the relegation zone.

In the next round, Santos will face Avaí at 4pm (Brasília time) on the 17th, at Vila Belmiro. Paysandu, in turn, will face Botafogo-SP the following day, at 6:30pm, in Ribeirão Preto.

The game

Right at the start of the match, Paysandu almost opened the scoring. João Vieira took a shot from outside the area, the ball deflected halfway and Gabriel Brazão made a great save.

Shortly after, Cazares was bold and tried to score an Olympic goal, but the ball hit the crossbar. Under pressure, Santos only came close to scoring in the 19th minute, when Serginho laid the ball off for Pituca, who shot with a well-placed shot, but Diogo Silva intervened.

The first half continued with a lot of action. Esli García invaded the area and finished, but Gabriel Brazão saved it again. Then, after a one-two between Guilherme and Escobar, Rodrigo Ferreira unleashed a bomb and the Paysandu goalkeeper went back to work.

In the first half, Santos tried to hurt their opponents by counter-attacking. And that’s when Pituca called Guilherme, who, face to face with Diogo Silva, chipped the ball wide.

At 38 minutes, Peixe took the lead in the match. Rodrigo Ferreira crossed for Guilherme to head into the back of the net.

Second half

In the second half, the game fell into chances created, with Santos managing the advantage and exploring the counterattack. Meanwhile, Paysandu was struggling to create any danger.

In the 22nd minute, Hayner took off and served Serginho, who set up Furch to finish wide of Diogo Silva’s goal. After going to the VAR, the referee sent Netinho off for leaving his hand on Guilherme’s face and further complicated the situation for Papão.

Still, Paysandu had a great chance to tie the game. After a partial clearance by Brazão, Robinho headed the ball and Jair saved it on the line.

Despite this, it was Santos who scored: Weslley Patati was served by Guilherme and killed the game in the 45th minute. The number 11, in injury time, scored a great goal from a free kick to give the final score to the game.
