Uruguay thrashes Bolivia and heads towards the quarterfinals of the Copa América
Uruguay advanced its place to the quarter-finals of the Copa América on Thursday night (27). At MetLife Stadium, the team coached by Marcelo Bielsa put on a show and beat Bolivia 5-0, with goals from Facundo Pellistri, Darwin Núñez, Maxi Araújo, Valverde and Bentancur.
As expected, the match was completely dominated by the Uruguayans, who were attended by the fans and created countless scoring chances from the beginning of the match, which featured a great performance from Darwin Núñez, Federico Valverde and Maxi Araújo.
With the victory, the Uruguayans reached 6 points and remain at the top of Group C of the Copa América, which can be defined by goal difference. Mathematically, not even Bolivia , who lost to Uruguay today against the United States in their debut, is eliminated. The Bolivians, however, would need to beat Panama, hope for the Americans to lose and still have a difference of eight goals on balance.
Group C Situation
Uruguay is the clear leader, with 6 points gained and a positive balance of seven goals. Second place is the United States, which has 3 points and a positive balance of one goal. Next, Panama, which also has a victory, but has a negative balance of -1 goal. Finally, the last place is Bolivia, which has a balance of -7.
Therefore, the group could undergo major changes in the last round and all teams still dream of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Copa América. Uruguay, of course, has the biggest advantage, as only a combination of results linked to a defeat to the United States would make the team lose its place.
Upcoming games
The two teams will only play again on Monday (1), at 10pm (Brasília time). Uruguay faces the United States, while Bolivia faces Panama.
