Vasco and Fortaleza meet again this Wednesday (3), at 8 pm (Brasília time), in São Januário, for the 14th round of the Brazilian Championship Series A. Cruzmaltino wants to move away from the relegation zone, while Fortaleza wants to place itself even further in the group of the top four.

Even though Leão is experiencing better moments than Cruzmaltino, in the last meeting Vasco defeated Fortaleza, in the third phase of the Copa do Brasil. After two draws, the Rio de Janeiro team qualified on penalties.

The first game, at Castelão, ended in a 0-0 draw, and the second leg ended in a 3-3 draw, with many twists and turns throughout the match. Despite being the favorite, Fortaleza ended up being eliminated on Wednesday’s duel. Last year, they were also defeated in Rio de Janeiro in the Brazilian Championship, 1-0.

And once again, the duel on the bench will be between Rafael Paiva and Juan Pablo Vojvoda. Vasco’s interim coach took over the team again, after four games with the Portuguese Álvaro Pacheco. In that classification, the match was the last before Paiva passed the baton.

How the teams arrive

Despite experiencing its best phase in the competition, Vasco has only 11 points, the same score as Atlético-GO, the first team in the relegation zone. Rafael Paiva is still interim coach of the Rio de Janeiro team.

For the duel, Paiva will not have João Victor and Estrella, who are injured, Mateus Carvalho and David return, after serving a suspension in the classic against Botafogo.

Fortaleza, in turn, will not have Yago Pikachu, who is suspended. Midfielders Martinez and Zé Welison are injured, as are forwards Moisés and Pedro Rocha.
