Veiga misses penalty, Athletico-PR beats Palmeiras and retakes leadership of the Brasileirão;

Athletico-PR surprised Palmeiras and won 2-0 this Sunday (12), at Arena Barueri, in a game valid for the sixth round of the Brazilian Championship.

Still in the first half, Abel Ferreira’s team had a penalty in their favor, scored after a foul by goalkeeper Bento on Endrick. Raphael Veiga, however, went for the kick and stopped at the archer, summoned by Dorival Júnior to defend the Brazilian National Team in the Copa América.

In stoppage time of the first half, Pablo opened the scoring for the Hurricane, in the 54th minute, on a free kick. The striker became Athletico-PR’s top scorer in Brazilians in consecutive points, with 35 goals.

Coach Cuca’s team doubled the lead in the 14th minute after Gustavo Gómez deflected Cuello’s cross-shot into his own goal, scoring an own goal.

Soon after increasing the lead, the Hurricane still had Esquivel sent off with the second red card, but even with the numerical superiority Palmeiras could not react.
