Vitória beats Cuiabá and leaves the Z4 of the Brazilian Championship

Vitória achieved, this Saturday (3), an important result in the fight against relegation from the Brazilian Championship Series A. With a goal from Wagner Leonardo, ex-Cruzeiro, Leão beat Cuiabá 1-0 and left the Z4 of the competition.

It wasn’t the best performance by the red-and-black team, currently led by Estephano Dijan, as Thiago Carpini was suspended. However, Vitória followed the crowd’s lead and got the result in the second half.

At the moment, Leão occupies 12th place in the Brasileirão, with 21 points. To return to the Z4 in this round, it needs to lose positions to Criciúma, Juventude, Internacional, Corinthians and Grêmio, who are still playing.

Cuiabá remains in the relegation zone, with just 17 points. The golden team is in 18th place, ahead of only Fluminense and Atlético-GO.

Upcoming games

The Lion’s next challenge this season is the Ba-Vi classic. On August 11, a Sunday, Rubro-Negro will visit Bahia at Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador (BA). Cuiabá will face Grêmio next Saturday (10), at 7 pm, at Arena Pantanal. Both games are valid for the 22nd round of the Brasileirão.

Game report

lukewarm game

The game took a while to get going. Vitória had difficulty keeping possession of the ball and did not put pressure on Cuiabá, who also did not have much effectiveness in their actions.

First finish

The first dangerous shot came in the 26th minute. Osvaldo took a short corner to PK, who crossed into the area. Wagner Leonardo headed the ball over the goal.

Pitta misses big chance

Cuiabá, in turn, only appeared on the attack in the 39th minute. After a good play by Ramon on the left, Max played the ball into the area and Pitta appeared alone to finish, but kicked it wide.

Walter performs miracles

In the 44th minute, Vitória missed its best chance of the match. Willian Oliveira finished in the penalty area and the ball fell to Matheusinho, facing the goal. The midfielder was unable to finish well, and Walter performed a miracle at Barradão.

Victory comes back better

Vitória returned for the second half in search of a positive result. In the 12th minute, Raul Cáceres crossed from the right and Matheusinho headed dangerously.

On the beam!

In the 25th minute, Vitória built the play well and the ball fell to Osvaldo on the right side. The number 11 crossed perfectly for Zé Hugo, who headed the ball straight at the post.

Victory opens the scoring

The goal that opened the scoring at Barradão came soon after. Wagner Leonardo took advantage of a good cross from Osvaldo, headed by Alerrandro, and headed the ball into the back of the net.

On the beam again!

Leão almost extended their lead in the 41st minute of the second half. After a pass from Matheusinho, Zé Hugo hit the post again.
