Who is Lookman, Atalanta’s hero in the Europa League final;
Atalanta’s hero in the final this Wednesday (22), against Bayer Leverkusen, Ademola Lookman was the name of the game and entered the history of the competition after scoring the three goals that gave the Italian club its unprecedented Europa League title.
In addition to overturning a historic unbeaten record for the Germans , Ademola achieved another milestone. He is the first to score a hat-trick (three goals) in a competition final.
The Nigerian began his career in 2015 at Charlton Athletic , in England. After good performances in the English Premier League, he went to Everton, where he stayed for two years (between 2017 and 2019).
Before leaving Everton, Lookman created wear and tear in the January 2018 window. The Toffees had an agreement with Derby County to loan him, but the striker put his foot down and asked for a transfer to RB Leipzig, in Germany.
“We have some agreements, but he is adamant about choosing Germany. We wanted him to go out on loan in the hope he would play in the first team, but his stubbornness meant he got what he wanted in the end,” said Sam Allardyce, Everton manager at the time.
Lookman played for the German team between 2018 and 2022. During this period, he was loaned to Fulham and Leicester City, returning to English football.
In August 2022, Atalanta signed the 26-year-old Nigerian, paying around 15 million euros to Leipzig.
Despite defending the African team, Ademola Lookman was born in England (he is the son of Nigerians). The striker even played for the English team in the youth teams, where he won the Under-20 World Cup in 2017.
