With a goal at the end, Flamengo beats Bahia and takes the lead in the Brasileirão
Flamengo beat Bahia 2-1 this Thursday (20) in the 10th round of the Brazilian Championship. At Maracanã, Gerson opened the scoring for the home team and Everaldo equalized for the Bahian Tricolor. When the draw seemed to be declared, David Luiz scored a header for Flamengo and secured the victory at home.
With the result, Flamengo took the lead in the Brasileirão . Now coach Tite’s team has 21 points and has surpassed Botafogo, which has 20. Bahia has fallen to fourth place, remaining at 18 points.
Bahia plays nice
Bahia did not give up its characteristics and started the game looking to take the lead. The intense movement and quick exchange of passes made Rogério Ceni’s team create good moves.
The visitors, however, were unable to score. Cauly, at six, finished dangerously at Rossi’s goal. Jean Lucas, in turn, took a risk from a distance, but caught the ball poorly
Gerson doesn’t forgive!
Flamengo was much more objective. Betting on the speed of Lorran, Cebolinha and Luiz Araújo, he had a quick transition to reach the attack with few touches.
At 26, the ball arrived at the edge of the area for Pedro, who pivoted excellently. Gerson, with a dry shot from outside the area, hit the right corner and opened the scoring!
Top scorer Everaldo in action
Bahia’s reaction didn’t take long. Jean Lucas was smart to see Everaldo heading into the area and made the right pass. The number 9 beat Ayrton Lucas at speed and scored: 1 to 1!
To score his fifth goal in the Brasileirão, isolating himself in the Serie A artillery, Everaldo had the skill to touch Rossi’s exit, leaving Flamengo ‘s goalkeeper without action.
The game remained open and, before the break, Cebolinha’s big chance. The number 11 received the ball inside the area, but finished over Marcos Felipe’s goal, at 44.
Second half more truncated
The return of the break presented a game with fewer spaces and, consequently, fewer opportunities. The solution was to take risks from afar, but Rossi and Marcos Felipe made easy saves.
Tite, who had already replaced Bruno Henrique in Cebolinha’s place, with a problem in his hip, changed Flamengo: Allan and Gabigol replaced Lorran and Luiz Araújo.
The substitutions had the effect. If Bahia was no longer able to play like it did in the first half, Rubro-Negro increased its marking and began to suffocate the opposing team.
The lead goal!
Flamengo pressed until the end, but found it difficult to transform possession into real chances. When it no longer seemed possible, the goal came.
With a free kick taken by Gerson, almost in the corner, David Luiz rose above Bahia’s defense and deflected the ball, with no chance for Marcos Felipe: 2-1 in the 49th minute and end of game!
Upcoming games
Both Flamengo and Bahia return to the field next Sunday (23) for the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship. Flamengo has the classic against Fluminense at Maracanã. Bahia hosts Cruzeiro at Arena Fonte Nova.
